A Call for Seniors to Keep Working

You’ve just retired. Or you’re making plans to retire next year.  And now I’m suggesting you keep working? How annoying is that?

It would be easy for senior to ignore me.  After all you deserve to stand down. You’ve reached the age when you should be able to step away and put your feet up.

But this is not the right time.  The world is going crazy, there are real wars or economic wars everywhere, and we need everyone to play a role in steadying the ship.  It’s not the time for the most experienced among us to be absent from the workplace.

And now, in the distance, I hear a growing complaint:  Older people will take the jobs from younger people!  Rubbish.  Seniors don’t want the jobs that young people do.

Let’s leave it to the youth to climb the corporate ladder with all the stress that entails. Been there, done that. It wasn’t  healthy for workers then, and it’s not healthy for anyone now.

Then there are other voices saying that tariffs will result in huge layoffs.  So will there even be jobs for ElderWorkers?

My response is that there may be fewer jobs, but there will always be work that needs to be done.  Seniors know how to work.  Go for it.
